After divorce, many women head back into the workforce

The end of a marriage brings a number of changes, some of which are more welcome than others. For many in Colorado, divorce will bring about the need to return to work. This especially true for women, who have often set aside their own career path to care for their children and manage the household. For these women, re-entry into the workforce can be both an exciting and a daunting prospect.

One of the first things that a job-seeker must determine is what type of position is best suited to one’s distinct set of skills and experience. In many industries, things have changed very rapidly in recent years, and some people find that they are more suited for a particular position than they imagined. The best way to work through the available options is to hire a job coach. These professionals can listen to a job-seeker’s goals and needs, and guide him or her to the right types of career opportunities. Job coaches can also provide help with resumes and networking options.

Some workers have been out of their field long enough to feel completely left behind when it comes to the technological aspects of their jobs. While understandable, this a dangerous way to approach a new job search. A better tactic is to determine what types of technological training is required to be competitive within a given job market, and then take steps to obtain those skills. Everyone needs a tech brush-up from time to time, and workers who have been absent for a period of time might have to play catch-up in order to compete.

For those in Colorado who are moving through a divorce, it is important to give consideration to the financial needs that will arise once that process is complete. By understanding how much money will be needed to move forward as a single person, spouses can work out a property division settlement that meets those goals. That way, rejoining the workforce can be an exciting time and not a prospect that causes anxiety or dread.
